Worldwide Screening: I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck on December 10, 2020
On December 10, 2020, the anniversary of the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a second Worldwide Screening will take place. Cinemas, schools, universities, and cultural institutions have responded to the call of the international literature festival berlin (ilb) to screen I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck. This award-winning 95-minute 2016 documentary was shot on the basis of the unfinished manuscript “Remember This House” by James Baldwin (1924 – 1987).
The worldwide screening is intended to underscore our responsibility to examine the history of colonialism and racism. Over the course of almost four centuries, 10-12 million enslaved Africans were transported to America, mainly by European traders. More than 250 years after the abolition of the Atlantic slave trade, equal treatment of white people and People of Color has by no means been established – neither in America, nor in Europe, or any other region of the world.

Worldwide Screening: I Am Not Your Negro von Raoul Peck am 10. Dezember 2020
Am Jahrestag der, durch die Vereinten Nationen im Jahr 1948 verkündeten, Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte findet das zweite Worldwide Screening am 10. Dezember 2020 statt. Kinos, Schulen, Universitäten und kulturelle Institutionen folgten dem Aufruf des internationalen literaturfestivals berlin (ilb) zu einer weltweiten Filmvorführung von I Am Not Your Negro von Raoul Peck. Der preisgekrönte, 95-minütige Dokumentarfilm aus dem Jahr 2016 wurde auf Basis des unvollendeten Manuskripts „Remember This House“ von James Baldwin (1924 – 1987) gedreht.
Mit der weltweiten Vorführung soll unsere Verantwortung unterstrichen werden, die Geschichte der Kolonisation und des Rassismus detailliert aufzuarbeiten. Im Laufe von fast vier Jahrhunderten wurden 10-12 Millionen versklavte Afrikaner nach Amerika transportiert, hauptsächlich von europäischen Händlern. Mehr als 250 Jahre nach der Abschaffung des atlantischen Sklavenhandels ist die Gleichbehandlung von Weißen und People of Color keineswegs festgeschrieben – weder in Amerika noch in Europa noch in anderen Regionen der Welt.
